French Naval Industry - Market Developments

Global military spending has reached a record high, driven by increased investments in defense across Europe. France is expected to allocate hundreds of billions of euros to bolster its military capabilities through a new military programming law, including support for new capabilities and ongoing programs until the end of the decade. President Macron has proposed a $438 billion military budget plan to the French parliament, likely to be approved soon.

Admiral Pierre Vandier, Chief of Staff of the French Navy, has emphasized the global trend of "naval rearmament," particularly in areas of strategic importance to France, like the Mediterranean and Indo-Pacific. As a result, the French Navy will see enhancements in the coming years, including the construction of new ships, such as an aircraft carrier and advanced frigates, along with investments in emerging domains like cyber, seabed warfare, drones, and space."

French defence 2024-2030 budget allocations:
  • €5 billion for intelligence and counterintelligence efforts
  • €13 billion for overseas capabilities and initiatives
  • €5 billion for “drones” to include unmanned systems and remotely operated munitions
  • €5 billion for surface-to-air defence capabilities
  • €16 billion for munitions, including modernization of long-range anti-ship missiles, F321 heavy torpedoes, and new surface-to-air and air-to-air interceptors
  • €49 billion for maintenance and conditional operations, a 49% increase over the previous LPM
  • €10 billion for innovative technology investments
  • €6 billion for the space domain
  • €4 billion for cyber defence
