U-S-E Water Project

Bringing Danish Water Technology to China

Background of U-S-E Water Project

The project was a coordinated and long-term approach to cultivate, build and strengthen relations between relevant actors in Denmark and China to benefit both parties. This model for building partnerships and offering e.g. knowledge and contacts aimed to increase the sales of Danish water technology to China.

The U-S-E Water 1.0, operated by the Danish Export Association, financially supported by the Danish Industry Foundation from 2018 to 2022, has created very good results despite Covid19, and is expected to generate large sales after the end of the project and ensures that a wider range of Danish water technology companies will receive continued sales in China.

  • 40+ Chinese connections established (incl. EPCs, utilities/end users, institutions and authorities etc.)
  • 5 partner WWTP's analyzed with huge upgrade potential
  • A direct sale of +18 mil. DKK created for participating companies

About the U-S-E Water 2.0

The U-S-E Water 2.0, a partnership project on Water in China, can be seen a follow up on previous years' activities carried out by Danish Export Association, the Trade Council in China and the Danish Ministry of Environment. But now we are joining forces in a historically strong export initiative on Water in 2022-23.

The partnership has received funds from the Foreign Ministry to implement a number of relevant activities to support sales of Danish water technologies in China, with focus on Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment in major Chinese cities.

As in U-S-E Water 1.0, we will continue our work involving Chinese and Danish experts as well as the
Danish utilities. The objective is to promote Danish water technology to the Chinese water stakeholders, maintain and create new connections between large Chinese water companies and Danish suppliers to push sales. Through this and the work of DEPA, we will also support the Chinese utilities in living up to the strict requirements in the 14th Five-Year Plan on CO2 emissions and water savings. In addition, we will continue our work on creating a demo site for Danish water or wastewater technology and services.

The U-S-E Water 2.0 Project Explained

Danish Export – Water China (DEA-Water China), Danish Environment Protection Agency (DEPA) and Trade Council’s Water and Environment Team (TC-W&E) at the Embassy in Beijing have established a partnership on Water in China.

On the basis of this extremely strong partnership, and based on the good results created through DEA’s U-S-E Water 1.0 in the past 4 years, we are ready to continue developing business opportunities in China for Danish water companies through U-S-E Water 2.0.

Chinese target group

The project's primary partners will help open doors and create alliances and close relationships with Chinese water organizations, public authorities, knowledge institutes, companies and advisers/contractors who have potential projects, want innovative solutions and have the funds to invest. This work is done in close cooperation with the participating Danish companies in the project.

The aim is to develop product innovation and market adaptation for Danish companies, as well as create opportunities for joint development projects and collaboration with Chinese research institutes.

Danish Export Association’s China office and the network Danish Export – Water China is the platform from where these alliances are being built.
