"We are in Ghana because the market is a good startingpoint to West Africa. And the country is politically stable and safe to travel. The Ghanaians are behind in regards to treatment of wastewater for example there is no sewerage in many places. But we see a good development and several organisation are investing in new treatment facilities. Another interesting market in Ghana is drinking water which is primarily produced from surface water. We see a great potential for our products here.

Waste Water Management, Ghana

Concrete opportunities in water management in Ghana

In 2020, the Embassy conducted a survey to identify concrete opportunities in both industrial and municipal wastewater management in Ghana.

Several opportunities ranging from wastewater treatment for reuse, polishing of secondary effluent, household treatment system, operation and maintenance and pre-treatment were identified for Danish technology providers.

Danida

One of the exciting opportunities being explored under the visit is the Danida Sustainable Infrastructure Finance project:

Aveyime Water Supply Project (with ongoing feasibility study), which seeks to provide water for the eastern part of Greater Accra (both households and industry). Central components:

  • New intake and treatment plant
  • Distribution network
  • Rehabilitation of Tema booster station
  • Non-revenue water
  • Expansion of the SCADA system

The delegation will promote the Danish strongholds towards key stakeholders and customers:

  • Sustainable and efficient water supply
  • Technologies to reduce non-revenue water
  • Smart and energy-efficient wastewater treatment
  • Green transition of wastewater treatment with a focus on energy efficiency and production
  • Sludge treatment and nutrient recovery
  • Water management and urban resilience
  • Digital solutions, data collection and management
  • Public-private partnerships and research
