SPG Barcelona - a window to the global seafood industry

Barcelona is the new exhibition location onwards for Seafood Processing Global (SPG). Barcelona offers room for further development of this leading exhibition where stakeholders, decision markers, buyers and suppliers from the global fish/seafood processing and aquaculture industry meet.

SPG was held in parallel with Seafood Expo Global as usual for the first time at the new exhibition venue in Barcelona in 2022. The annual Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global turned out to be very succesfull in its first year in Barcelona attracting a total number of exhibitors, buyers, decision makers and stake holders  surpassing 26,000 from all around the world during the three-day event.

SPG is the perfect spot for establishing new business relations, negociate and close orders, discuss new opportunities, get useful market insights an nurture your business relationships.

SPG is a must-attend international exhibition for suppliers, key buyers, professionals and decision-makers in the global fish- & seafood industry. The event has an international outlook and no other exhibition in the world gathers the global fish- and seafood industry in one location as Seafood Expo Global (SEG) & Seafood Processing Global (SPG) taking place in parallel. The synergy of the 2 exhibitions under one roof is obvious as producers and equipment suppliers to the fish/seafood processing industry can exchange and reach out to each other during the exhibition itself.

In recent years suppliers to the international aquaculture industry have made their way to SPG with success as part of the industry value chain.

The Spanish industry - in brief

Spain is the leading fishing industry nation in EU in the entire value chain.

  • Spain stands for 18% of the total production of fish/seafood in EU
  • Spain have the largest fish processing industry sector in EU.
  • The aquaculture industry in Spain is also number 1 in EU measured by volume.

A world of opportunities for Danish companies

To be competitive and future-oriented the fish processing industry in Spain have a need to streamline and optimize the value creation in the industry and Danish suppliers have strong competences and technology for streamlining and assuring value optimization within fish processing which might contribute to develop and lift the industry in Spain to a new level.

As to the aquaculture industry in Spain, the Spanish government in 2014 launched a strategic development plan for the aquaculture industry towards 2030 with a production target of 500.000+ tons by 2030.

The industry is seen to have considerable growth potential, but the investments have been lacking over the last years. However the ambitons for the industry are intact and new projects in the Spanish aquaculture industry are under way with new land-based aquaculture facilities under construction.
