Global outlook on aquaculture - trends in the aquaculture industry and future key markets globally for feed, equipment and technology suppliers to the industry
by Novel Sharma, Analyst - Seafood and aquaculture sector, Rabobank

Continued growth is expected in the global aquaculture sector in the coming years. Novel Sharma from Rabobank, one of the leading research and analyst banks within the seafood industry,  will give his outlook on the aquaculture industry, with expectations for 2023 and going forward. Novel’s focus will be on future key markets for aquaculture in terms of land-based farming and sea-based farming respectively, and which markets can represent particular opportunities for feed, technology and equipment suppliers to the industry. Novel will also touch upon challenges experienced currently by the aquaculture industry in selected markets. With his particular insights within salmon and shrimps, Novel will give his take on the key drivers for the aquaculture industry in coming years for particularly these two species. He will also outline how the ‘World Seafood Map’ looks like here in 2023.

Commercial aquaculture production of new exotic species – opportunities and challenges
by Wil Conn, Aquaculture Sales Manager, Veolia Water Technologies AB - Hydrotech

Wil has a track record of more than 25 years within the aquaculture industry. He has an extensive farming background, focused on tropical species, that has taken him to Australia, China and the Middle East. Wil's aquaculture credentials are supported by experience within the aqua-feed sector, environmental compliance and through senior management and industry representative roles.

Wil has worked with implementation of various farming systems for commercial aquaculture production of tropical fish and crustaceans. He will use this experience to share his insights of farming of more exotic species and key lessons learned. Furthermore, Wil will link his insights to current industry trends and how this may offer new opportunities for Danish technology and solutions suppliers to the aquaculture industry.

GeoSalmo – a 24,000 tonnes hybrid flow-through land based salmon farm underway in Iceland + thoughts on future outlook for land based fish-farming in Iceland in general

Construction of GeoSalmo’s salmon farm is set to begin in third quarter of 2023. In their salmon farm, GeoSalmo put great focus on the entire value chain, and have emphasis on having the lowest environmental footprint possible. Laufey will give insight to how GeoSalmo approach these matters in the project, and will also give an introduction to their project. Laufey will furthermore give her view on the status and future outlook for land based fish-farming in Iceland in general, where many projects have been announced in recent years.

Holistic production facilities and circular approach to land-based fish-farming

In the aquaculture industry, Schneider Electric is focusing on creating resource efficient land-based fish farming facilities in partnership with producers. The land-based fish farming facilities are characterized by having strong focus on holistic production, circular economy, sustainability, optimal exploitation of resources, energy efficiency and working towards carbon neutrality. All of these matters are currently on top of the agenda in many industries, and Thomas will talk about how Schneider Electric put it into practice in the aquaculture industry on land-based facilities. They will also talk about how they see the aquaculture industry developing onwards on the aspects mentioned.

Landeldi ehf. – land based Salmon fish-farming facility in Iceland with production of 52,000 tonnes (biomass) by 2029

In the presentation Bjarni and Gudmundur will give an introduction to Landeldi fish-farming facility, where production is expected to be 52,000 tonnes (biomass) by 2029. They will explain how they use natural resources at the fish-farm. In addition, they will give a status on the fish-farm currently, and explain how they will build the fish-farm in phases

We are organizing an informal dinner on 22 March in the evening at the Hotel Lautrup Park in Ballerup, not far from Schneider Electric, where the aquaculture conference is held. The restaurant will serve a 3-course dinner.

Meet your industry colleagues in an informal atmosphere prior to the aquaculture conference. In addition we have made a block booking for hotel rooms at the Hotel Lautrup Park. Participation in networking dinner and hotel stay will be at an additional cost and will be invoiced to you after the event. For price for networking dinner & hotel stay, see price box above.
